Nasa engineers added a handle to make it easier to hold in his bulky mittens. He bought this new toy, reasoning that automatic focus would save time taking pictures in space. Then he saw, in the Cocoa Beach shop he had popped into after getting a haircut, a Minolta automatic camera. He wanted to take pictures, but how could he do that while flying Friendship 7, as his craft was called?Īldrin poses next to the stars and stripes. ![]() Glenn, one of Nasa’s original team of seven astronauts selected from the test pilot elite, was getting ready for America’s first attempt to put a human in orbit. It all started when John Glenn walked into a store in Cocoa Beach, Florida, at the start of the 1960s. This was the dreamlike climax of a love affair between Nasa’s astronauts and photography – a passion that altered human consciousness for ever. It was, after all, no casual afterthought that Armstrong was standing there in the airless lunar day with a camera in his heavily gloved hands. How, they ask, could this have been possible? But, instead of wasting our time on that, we should ask how Apollo 11 added artistic genius to all its other achievements. The photographs that the pair took during their 21 hours and 36 minutes on Earth’s satellite from 20 to 21 July 1969 are so astonishingly good that their very quality has, perversely, become one of the arguments used by conspiracy theorists who believe the landings were faked. It’s as if the moon’s surface has overwhelmed Aldrin’s face, or even become it. It is a portrait of humanity evolving before our eyes into something new and extraordinary. (His suit is genderless: the Apollo astronauts wore spacesuits made by the bra company Playtex, and their urine-proof underwear was adapted from a girdle.) In losing his selfhood, Aldrin becomes each one of us. Photograph: AFP/GettyĪldrin has become everyman – and everywoman. ‘A thrilling swirl of land, water and cloud’ … Earthrise by Apollo 8’s William Anders. The photographer has incorporated the making of the image into the image, to tell the story of something new in the universe: two human beings looking at each other across the dusty surface of an alien world. Meanwhile, reflected and warped by the helmet, the other horizon stretches away behind Armstrong. Behind Aldrin, the moon’s bright surface recedes to a blue horizon against the black void of space. Yet these reflective qualities are part of what makes this such a powerful, complex image, one in which we can see two lunar horizons. This effacement of Aldrin came about because Apollo astronauts wore visors lined with gold to protect their eyes from sunlight. His features and flesh are hidden inside a thickly padded white spacesuit, its visor reflecting the tiny figure of Armstrong himself, beside the gold-coloured legs of the lunar lander. His name was Neil Armstrong and his astonishing act of creativity is a photograph of his Apollo 11 crewmate Buzz Aldrin standing on the Sea of Tranquillity on the moon. ![]() Fifty years ago this week, a former navy pilot created one of the most revolutionary artistic masterpieces of the 20th century, one we have yet to fully assimilate. ![]() ![]() ![]() Luxord, Marluxia, and Larxene are defeated, beginning their re-completion again. Xigbar, Luxord, Marluxia, and Larxene encounter Sora throughout the worlds on their respective missions to find and protect the New Seven Hearts and to find the Black Box. Xigbar, Saïx, Vexen, Demyx, Luxord, Marluxia and Larxene return to Nobodies to become members of the real Organization XIII Xemnas's heart is extracted from the past and placed in a replica, so he may also serve as a member. The gang prepare to face a great many Heartless, backed by Unversed and Nobodies. When Riku awakens in Castle Oblivion's lower levels, he faces some of the Organization's founding members and learns Nobodies belong to neither the light nor darkness. There, he forces Naminé to tamper with Sora's memories in an attempt to gain the Keyblade's power. Marluxia, the Organization's Number XI, leads Sora and his friends to Castle Oblivion. On a return trip to Hollow Bastion, Sora battles and defeats Xemnas. The former appears in Twilight Town and joins Organization XIII, while the latter finds herself in Castle Oblivion and in Organization XIII's custody. This creates two Nobodies: Roxas and Naminé. Sora becomes a Heartless in Hollow Bastion. This creates the first six members of Organization XIII, who are commanded by Xemnas, Xehanort's Nobody, to recruit more members into their ranks. Following this, he turns the Keyblade on himself and extracts his own heart. When Braig questions his intentions, Xehanort simply extracts his heart next. Needing vessels for his plan to create thirteen darknesses, Xehanort tricks Aeleus, Dilan, Even and Ienzo into giving up their hearts as part of their research into the nature of the heart and the Heartless, using his Keyblade to extract their hearts. The first eight members of the Organization are created when Terra-Xehanort attacks them. ![]() ![]() ![]() This form helps Aplos achieve two things. Īdditional Note: As pointed out this Question shows how to save an RGB565 bmp image with Photoshop. This is really easy to do and only takes. For example a 32bit Image can refer to a 24bit image + 8 bits of alpha (transparency). This Photoshop tutorial will show you how to convert a 32 or 16 bit image into an 8 bit image to save it as a JPEG. To further confuse matters, you can have an additional bit depth for transparency. Conversions between 16 bit and 8 bit are much simpler as they both have the same range, just divided into a different number of steps. However, most non-photo software (web browsers) utilize 24bit RGB images and often don't support the 48 or 96 bit images. Controls to convert from 32 bit to an 8bit/16 bit gamma space are designed to give you choices as to what will be captured in the final 8 bit/16 bit image, and what will be discarded. Photoshop has the ability to work with 8, 16, or 32 bit RGB, which translates to 24, 48 or 96 bit images. 16 bit refers to an RGB image with more than normal color depth. Using these numbers, standard RGB images are referred to as 8 or 24 bit. Things can get confusing when dealing with the word "bit" at times.Ĩ bit RGB = 24bit image (8 bits R, 8 bits G, 8 bits B = 24).ġ6 bit RGB = 48bit image (16 bits R, 16 bits G, 16 bits B = 48). In the “Indexed Color” Options, we used a “Pattern Dither”.I believe bmp only supports 8 bit RGB (24bit images) Use the method you prefer to “Pixelate” your image, (we used the “Mosaic” filter but used a 30 “Square” Cell Size). You will have to turn your image “Mode” to “RGB Color” first and then go to “Indexed Color” and apply “Step 6” or “Step 7” to achieve your look.ġ1 - Finally, you can apply the look to a portrait or other image with a higher resolution. Then, go back to the “Image Size” window, change the “Pixels” to “Percent” and resize it again to make it bigger (use multiples to have a better result).ġ0 - Head back to the “Image” menu. (If your original image is in “Grayscale” you will need to make it “RGB Color” first and then “Indexed Color”).ĩ - Open the “Image Size” dialog (Option/Alt + Command/Control + I) and reduce the image a lot (The “With” and “Height” were 1800 Pixels). Go to Image > Mode > Indexed Color and choose “Local (Perceptual)”, in the “Palette” menu (20 in “Colors” and “None” in “Forced”), use “Diffusion”, 20% and check the “Preserve Exact Colors” box in the “Options” section. Open your image, check if you need to adjust the contrast and tweak the “Levels” if it is the case. In “Options” use the “Diffusion” option for “Dither” and an “Amount” of 15%.ħ - You can experiment with the “Options” to see some different results, like using “Pattern” instead of “Diffusion” as “Dither”.Ĩ - Now we will use the same process in another image, and explore a different way to “Pixelate” it. Click “Load” in the “Color Table” window and navigate to where you saved your “Color Table” to select it, then click OK. (In this occasion, we are using several images to illustrate some variations in the process).Ĥ - Go to Image > Adjustments > Levels (Command/Control + L) and play with the levers a bit to get a nice contrast.ĥ - Go to Filter > Pixelate > Mosaic and choose a “Cell Size” of 10 square.Ħ - Go to Image > Mode > Indexed Color and choose “Custom” in the “Palette” menu. ![]() Close you’re the image and open the one you plan to use as your artwork.ģ - Open the image you want to use. It should have the colors you want to use.Ģ - Go to File > Export > Save For Web (Legacy) (Option/Alt + Shift + Command/Control + S), and in the “Color Table” menu select “Save Color Table”, name it as you like and save it (choose a location you will remember easily). For this Tutorial, we are using some images to convert into an 8-Bit console style artwork and the screenshot of a Game to make the “Color Palette”.ġ - In Photoshop, open the game screenshot you have made. ![]() |
